Aspen Woods is one of Calgary’s newer and most popular communities on the West End. Annexed in 1956 and developed primarily beginning in 2001, Aspen Woods is bound by Bow Trail and Strathcona Park to the North, 69th St SW to the East, 17th Ave SW to the South and future Stoney Trail to the West.
This affluent community is primarily home to upscale and executive single-detached homes ranging from $500,000 up to the multi-million dollar mark, many with stunning mountain views. The family-oriented community has a number of schools nearby, including popular Webber Academy, a private K-12 school.
Aspen Woods shares a very active community association with Strathcona Park and Christie Park. They host such activities as martial arts classes, dance, bridge art and fitness classes and much more! They also operate tennis courts, a hockey rink, a seasonal skating pond, and soccer fields. Also nearby is the Westside Recreation Centre offering an aquatic park, fitness centre, climbing wall, hockey arena and Youth Wellness centre with a skatepark and outdoor hard courts.
The Aspen Landing shopping centre along 85th St SW is home to Safeway, Starbucks, Shoppers Drug Mart and many more shops and restaurants in a “village style” shopping experience along the shores of one of the ponds that dot the neighborhood. Co-Op, Tim Hortons, and many more amenities are also available further North on 85th St in West Springs.
Aspen woods is a quiet family community, removed from the inner-city but still highly accessible by car via 17th Ave or Bow Trail and by the new West LRT. The introduction of the West LRT line in 2012, going straight to the downtown core, considerably boosted the popularity of Aspen Woods for urban couples looking for upscale living outside the core.
